The Artists
Nathaniel and Luke Thompson are brothers from the hill country near Elsberry, Missouri. They come from a large family of artists who trace their creative gene back to their grandfather, Tom Mueller, a nationally-recognized cachet artist and oil painter. They both are self-taught and honed their skills primarily through the constructive criticism of their upbringing.
Nathaniel Thompson is the owner and administrator of Thompson Artwork. He is passionate about creating high-quality artwork that has meaning and expresses beauty.
His background reflects a diversity of skills and experience. He began working at a young age doing yardwork for neighbors. He later landed his first official job in the food service industry, where he became a store manager at the age of 17. He went into sheet metal fabrication as a press break operator for several years then worked briefly as a car salesman. A year after getting married, his love of working with people and serving their needs led him to pursue ministry work. He and his wife both earned Bachelor's Degrees in Biblical Studies at SIBI in Lubbock, TX. He worked as a minister in Seattle, WA, and then later in Troy, MO. He now works as a life skills teacher, when he isn't creating artwork.
Nathaniel is most known for his inkwork but he also enjoys working with pencil, watercolor, and oil. His style began to take shape during his middle school years, when he was influenced - due to his infatuation with comic books at the time - by artists such as Michael Turner, Adam Hughes, and Marc Silvestri. During high school, he further engrained his style by doing line art for sequential storytelling and working with digital coloring. While in his twenties, he incorporated painting into his practice, due to his admiration for artists like Norman Rockwell, Frank Frazetta, and Rembrandt.
He is blessed in marriage to Roberta "Birdie" Thompson, his best friend and a precious gift to him from the heart of God. Her loving kindness, extraordinary faithfulness, and amazing cooking has enriched Nathaniel's life beyond measure.
Luke Thompson is a freelance artist that sells his work through Thompson Artwork. He blessed his family with the easiest age to remember by being born the year of the new millennium. Too young to relate completely with millennials and too old to imitate wholeheartedly gen z, he is content with just being himself.
In his youth, he developed an interest in software technology and logged many hours on his Xbox and Steam accounts. He added music to his interests and learned how to play the piano by ear. He developed his talents as a pianist and learned how to read sheet music, until he outperformed his first tutor and decided to study music in college. Afterward, he worked for a third-party military contractor in the manufacturing of airplanes. During this time, he utilized his income as an entry-level assembly mechanic to launch his creative career as a freelance artist.
Utilizing both open-source and closed-source software, Luke works in multiple forms of digital media such as watercolor, pencil, inkwork, and hard brushwork. He draws inspiration from works such as "Berserk" by Kentaro Miura, "Solo Leveling" authored by Chugong, and the instruction of Sinix Design's channel on YouTube.
